The RMC Laboratory is accredited by COLA, federal, & state agencies. Our lab offers diagnostic testing for not only the RMC ER, OR, Infusion Services & inpatients but also for local nursing homes & home health agencies. We also offer outpatient labs on patients from our local physician’s offices as well as out of town or state physicians.
Need Outpatient Labs?
Our outpatient lab is open for service 24/7 and labs may be performed on a STAT basis for rapid reporting to the physician. Outpatient orders must include the physician signature, test(s) ordered, diagnosis, patient’s full name & date of birth. Lab orders may be placed by one of the following:
- Patient may bring in a written order from your physician.
- The physician may fax in an order to 423-843-4515.
- Standing orders may be set up on the “Standing Lab Program” so that the patient may bypass the registration process on all future visits for that standing order.
Results are sent directly to the ordering physician upon completion. Patients may monitor lab results from home by using the patient portal or by visiting our Health Information Management Department.
Most insurance plans are accepted.
About Our Lab
Our laboratory is staffed with personnel that are graduates of highly specialized degree programs concentrating on Medical Laboratory Science, obtaining either an Associates or Bachelor’s degree. Each testing personnel is licensed by the State of Tennessee & is certified by American Society of Clinical Pathologists (ASCP) or American Medical Technologists (ATM).
We are staffed with caring & compassionate phlebotomists.
Our innovative lab offers a wide range of tests. On-site tests include Chemistry, Immunology, Hematology, Coagulation, Urinalysis, Immunology, & Blood Bank.
We are very excited about the new Microbiology tests that we can perform by using some of the latest molecular methods. We now offer molecular identification for a wide range of sepsis pathogens & for gastrointestinal (GI) pathogens.
Our Blood Bank partners with Blood Assurance in Chattanooga, TN. They offer consultation services & ensure rapid blood product availability. Approximately 4 times a year Blood Assurance also utilizes RMC as a blood drive site. Blood drive dates & times are listed on the Rhea Medical Facebook page.
Our Laboratory Medical Director is Christina Birsan, MD. Dr. Birsan is certified by the American Board of Pathology. She is a pathologist with Associated Pathology who offers a range of pathology services & is available for physician consultation 24 hours a day.
